How to generate trim line (position)

Enter the trim line mode by clicking Trim Line on the Tools panel. If a case has no trim line, a popup window will be displayed, presenting two trim line generation modes for selection:

• Manually Add: Go to manual trim line mode to define trim lines.

• Auto Generate: The system automatically generated trim lines based on the offset and smoothness setup in Settings/Aligners.

  

How to update trim line (position)

Trim lines can be updated by applying new offset and smoothness values, or manually placing points, or changing the position of control points.

• Auto Generate: Trim lines can be updated according to the parameters of offset and smoothness set in the settings or on the Trim Line panel. Steps:

  1. Change the parameters of offset or smoothness as needed.
  2. Clicking Update Trim Lines in GENERATE BY VALUES section.

  • Offset: The larger the value, the further the distance between trim line and gum line.

  • Smoothness: The larger the value, the smaller the curvature of the line.

    • Offset =0.50mm

      Smoothness=1.0mm

      

    • Offset =1.10mm

      Smoothness=3.0mm

      

• Manually Add: Trim lines can be defined or replaced by placing points in manual trim line mode.

  1. Click Enter Manual Mode in GENERATE MANUALLY section.
  2. Select the arch for manually editing trim line.
  3. Click on model to place points to define a new trim line or replace a segment.
  4. Click Apply to update the trim line.

• Use Control Points: Trim lines can be updated by applying the customized the positions of control points. Steps:

  1. Check Use Control Points in UPDATE BY CONTROL POINTS section to enable control points.
  2. Click and drag on control points to change their position.
  3. Click Apply Control Points to update trim line. Trim lines on all stages will be updated.

  If you would like to customize trim line on different stages separately, you can enable Adjust Each Stage Separately. By doing so, trim line on different stages can be automatically updated at real time based on the customized position of control points.

How to modify trim line (direction) —— for ArchMill users

View or generate trim line directions by clicking Trim Line (Direction) on the Tools panel in trim line mode. Trim line (direction) is currently only available for ArchMill users.

• View trim line directions

  1. Drag on the slider at the top to simulate the route of trimming. Switch the simulation for upper and lower arch by clicking Upper or Lower at the top.
  2. Collisions between the bit and the model are displayed in red. View the stages that collisions are detected by clicking Check Collision.
  3. Control the visibility of bit by checking/unchecking Bit at the Layers panel.

  

• Update trim line directions

  1. Select the arch whose trim line directions need modifications at the top.

  2. If needed, select a bit type and set its length.

  3. Change parameters of trim line directions. If you would like to customize trim line directions on different stages separately, you can enable Adjust Each Stage Separately. By doing so, trim line on each stage can be automatically updated at real time based on the customized position of control points.

     • Outside Tilt Angle: The angle of trim line directions at the facial side.
     • Inside Tilt Angle: The angle of trim line directions at the lingual side near canines, premolars and molars.
     • Rear Tilt Angle: The angle of trim line directions at the rear end of an arch.
     • Lingual Tilt Angle: The angle of trim line directions at the lingual side near incisors.
     • Tolerance: The acceptable range of deviation from the set tilt angle.
     • Penetration Depth: The depth to which the bit inserts into the model.

     

  4. Click Update Trim Lines to generation trim line directions based on the customized parameters.
