After importing scans by creating a patient, you are ready to process the scans for pre-treatment. Please note that model orientation, trimming, capping, segmentation, and teeth verification for both arches are critical steps before treatment planning. Skipping them may lead to unexpected issues.

Step 1. Edit Scans

The imported arches should be positioned within the arch cutout, in occlusion, oriented upright, facing forward and trimmed down. The correct orientation is crucial for later operations.

  1. To orient scans, you can click Orient Scans to have the software automatically orient the scans. And you can use the rotation arrows to manually flip the model around until it is upright and facing forward.

  2. To clean up scans, you can use Trim, Extrude, Pinch, Sculpt, Smooth, and Clean tools.

    Notes:

If the scans are color scans, click Auto Trim to trim the scans automatically.

If your cut removes the side you wanted to keep, click the Undo button and try again, making a smaller cut.

You can use reference planes by checking the Show Planes checkbox as needed.

Once the scans are orientated correctly, click Next to proceed to the next step.

Step 2. Add Markers

After editing scan, please add markers to segment teeth from scans. When entering the Add Marker step, auto segmentation is ready. You can also mark teeth manually.

After adding markers for all teeth, click Next to start segmenting teeth from scans.

Step 3. Adjust Boundaries

Once the segmentation is done, the teeth will be colored in with borders along the gingival margin. When the boundaries adjustment for a tooth is done, click Done Editing Tooth or press the Enter key.
