Import

Creating a New Patient

To start, click on the top bar where the current patient's name is displayed. If you're using the software for the first time, it says "Sample Patient".

In the patient list, click + New Patients**.** This brings up the create patient page.

  1. Type in the patient's first name and last name in the field of First name and Last name.
  2. Choose patient creation mode in the dropdown menu and browse scan files.
    1. If Create patient by model is selected, click Browse files, locate and select the upper arch model, and click Open. Next, click Browse files and repeat the steps to add the lower arch model.
    2. If Create patient by .archform is selected, click Browse files, locate and select the .archform file to be imported. Update patient first name or last name if needed.
  3. Click Create Patient to import the scans.

Note: When exporting the scans from your scanner, select the option listed as Separate Files in Occlusion or similar, so that the scans will come in occlusion.


Edit Scans

The imported arches should be positioned within the arch cutout, in occlusion, oriented upright, facing forward and trimmed down. The correct orientation is crucial for later operations.

  1. Orient scans. You can click Orient Scans to have the software automatically orient the scans. And you can use the rotation arrows to manually flip the model around until it is upright and facing forward.

  2. Clean up scans.

    A. Click either Trim Upper or Trim Lower, depending on which arch needs to be trimmed.

    B. Select either Lasso or Plane. Lasso is for cutting out areas of the scan model. And Plane is for making straight cuts across the scan model.

    a. Lasso tool: Click and drag to make a circle around the selection that you wish to remove. Upon release of the mouse, the selected part will be removed.

    b. Trimming Plane: Click and drag to create a cutting plane along the section to be trimmed. Upon release of the mouse, the side of the plane with less material will be trimmed off.

    c. Click Done.

    Notes:

    If the scans are color scans, click Auto Trim to trim the scans automatically.

    If your cut removes the side you wanted to keep, click the Undo button and try again, making a smaller cut.

  3. Smooth the trimming edges. Click Smooth Upper or Smooth Lower in the Scan Tools panel on the left, drag the gray circle to smooth.

  4. Clean up the model by Clean tool.

    A: Manually Clean: Click Clean Upper or Clean Lower in Scan Tools on the left. Click Brush and adjust the brush size with the indicator bar, and click to clean brackets. Use shortcut keys "[" and "]" can adjust brush size as well.

    B: Automatically Clean: Click Clean Upper or Clean Lower in Scan Tools on the left, and click Auto. Click on a bracket, the brackets will be removed.

You can use reference planes by checking the Show Planes checkbox as needed.
